9Twos is a format of golf scoring and/or betting designed to maintain maximum pressure and engagement throughout all 18 holes. The format works for any two-ball, three-ball or four-ball (with four-ball in a betterball style).
- Structure: The 18 holes is divided into 6 sets of 3 holes, each 3 hole set is called a “Thing”.
- Betting: Each player or team bets an agreed amount per “Thing”. £2 per Thing is common (hence 9Twos), but this could easily work as 9Threes (£3 each), 9Fives (£5 each), or 9Tens (£10 each) depending on how adventurous you were.
- Scoring/winning: The winner of each “Thing” is determined by the maximum net Stableford points scored by the individual or team. Players are allowed 95% of their full Stableford handicap. The winner(s) collect all bets from the other player(s) for that Thing.
- Ties: In the case of ties, if all players (or each team) tie, the Thing will roll and is added on to the next Thing (and so will be played for a total of £4 per player in the case of 9Twos). NOTE: where. Thing rolls, it becomes a Thang, and where a Thang rolls (using the same logic) it becomes a Thong, though in the eventuality a Thong rolls it remains a Thong as a Thong is the maximum multiple of Things. If not all players tie, the Thing (or Thang or Thong) is split between the winners and paid out by the loser(s).
- Additional Scoring: Besides the “Things,” net Stableford calculations are done for the front 9, back 9, and overall match. The 6 Things, together with the front, back and match combine together to make up the 9 bets within the game of 9Twos.
- Scorekeeping: It’s recommended to maintain a scrupulous scorecard throughout the round to facilitate the tallying of bets at the end of the day.
9Twos is a perfect companion for the traditional game of RollOverBits.
